One of the easiest ways to improve a neighborhood is to adopt an attitude of joy with your neighbors.  Most of us can remember the days when a new neighbor meant baking cookies or a pie and delivering it to the new arrivals. That gift usually resulted in a dinner invitation from the new residents to those neighbors. Soon, everyone was helping each other watch children in the back yards and helping catch errant pets that slipped through an open gate. Friendly neighborhoods were well known in each city and new residents eagerly sought out homes to purchase in those areas.

Neighborhoods today are also well known by how happy the residents are. Make a point of meeting your neighbors. Wave to passing cars. Smile at children riding bikes. Say hello to people looking at homes for sale. Start a conversation instead of dashing straight into the garage. By building a reputation as a friendly place to live, potential residents driving through will be eager to purchase a home where everyone is welcoming and is clearly enjoying their neighborhood.

An inviting neighborhood benefits existing home owners by helping houses sell faster. That faster selling time has a snowball effect on property values because a demand is created and people eagerly await the opportunity to purchase a home in this community.
